If you’re a churchgoer, the last thing you expect during service is to hear buzzing or see a honey-stained wall, but for parishioners at Pine Street Church in Boulder, Colo., that’s exactly what happened.

The office manager of the church, Cathy Compton, told Daily Camera Boulder News that she started noticing bees in one of the rehearsal spaces at the church. Compton first though the bees were coming from outdoors but discovered their presence even after keeping the windows closed. Beekeeper Don Studinski was called; he used a heat-sensing tool to find the bees’ hive, which turned out to be located in the attic just above the rehearsal space where Compton found the bees, Daily Camera reports.

Rocky Mountain Bee owner Gregg McMahan inspected the hive, confirming it was 8 to 10 feet long, up to 4 feet wide, and 16 to 18 inches thick,” according to Daily Camera. The hive consists of an estimated 60,000 to 70,000 bees.

The church set up a Go Fund Me page to help save the hive while at the same time removing it from the church’s attic.

What would you do if you discovered a large beehive in your home, church or workplace?
